Kylah BrunoKylah Bruno - Herndon (she/her) is a ciswoman Puerto Rican educator and visual artist born and
raised in Chelsea, New York. She primarily serves as a middle school math teacher at Fannie Lou Hamer Middle School (FLHMS) and resides in the South Bronx with her husband, 2 dogs and 2 cats. She is a founding member of a healing & racial justice organization, Brown Girl Recovery (BGR), that is dedicated to providing holistic healing and community brave spaces for femmes and folks of color in the Bronx and northern Manhattan through social justice programing and events. Through her work with BGR, Kylah has been able to facilitate workshops & trainings on racial equity, community accountability and social justice for colleges & universities, non-profits, uptown-based community collectives and city agencies across the United States. She started her community justice work as a student projects coordinator at the Center for Community Action and Research (CCAR) at Pace University. As coordinator, she planned community service events, supervised 200 volunteers per event and organized service projects at local community spaces such as Green Chimneys and the Sharing Shelf. Kylah uses her expertise in community justice work to inform her role as school team leader and is currently building a culturally-responsive curriculum on cultural identity at FLHMS. Bruno - Herndon holds a bachelor’s degree in adolescent education and math from Pace University , a master’s degree in adolescent special education from CUNY Lehman College and is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in math leadership at Bank Street College of Education. Brown Girl Recovery (BGR) is a Black and queer-led organization founded in 2017 that creates grassroots healing spaces for Black and Brown communitt members living in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan
