Kaniya T. Samm, the co-founder of ROOTED LLC, originally from the San Francisco Bay Area,
is now a proud Harlem community member. Kaniya has a passion for racial equity, health
equity, and liberation.
Kaniya’s passion for the intersection of health and community-led her to co-found ROOTED
LLC. An organization committed to improving community health by providing culturally
empowering health services. Furthermore, ROOTED aims to normalize the healing experience
of communities through holistic practices.
Kaniya believes that liberation is a daily praxis rooted in relationship building and acute attention
to the mind, body and, spirit. Her work includes centering the lived experiences of communities
that face systemic oppression in all models of healthcare. Kaniya facilitates pathways to access
and self-determination as a means to transition power to the people. Through education,
dialogue, and action Kaniya constructs space that is responsive to the community’s needs.
Kaniya leverages her roles in health care technology to bring awareness to health inequities,
address racial health disparities, and enhance marginalized communities’ autonomy in the most
radical way possible.
Kaniya received her M.P.H from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her B.A. in Ethnic
Studies and Sociology from Mills College. In addition to being a full spectrum doula, she
currently works as the Head of Operations at Radical Health Inc. Through her academic and
